What is Yin Yoga?
Yin Yoga focuses on gently stretching the connective tissue, ligaments and joints which are not normally exercised in more active styles of yoga which focus on stretching muscles (Yang Yoga). The fundamental characteristic of Yin Yoga is holding postures for several minutes to target connective tissue. Postures are floor based focusing on the lower body, hips and spine. A Yin practice beautifully complements a Yang practice. Classes will include Pranayama (breathwork), Asanas (postures), visualisation/meditation techniques and guided relaxation. Classes will help you to relax, still the mind, re-energise and de-stress. Take time out for your yoga you time and balance your mind, body and spirit.
Your teacher Ginny Haswell
Ginny has been practicing yoga since 2000. She began as a student of vin yoga before discovering Astanga Vinyasa a few years later. For the past couple of years she has also introduced Yin into her regular practice.
In 2003 Ginny completed the British Wheel of Yoga foundation course and she later travelled to India to attend the teacher training programme at Brahmani Yoga in Goa, certified by the Yoga Alliance. More recently, she has studied with Paul Grilley, gaining a certificate in Yin Yoga and Anatomy training.
Ginny demonstrates a fresh and enthusiastic, yet nurturing and sensitive approach with her students. An emphasis on individual attention allows each student to flourish in their own practice at their own pace.
Continuing her studies at regular workshops and intensives, Ginny draws on inspiration gained from the teachings of Astanga Vinyasa, Jivamukti, Satyananda and Yin Yoga.
